is discovery

no different than

the discipline

of any science—

But a different kind of discovery

is poetry

that opens up

a whole different,

primordial

territory

whose frontier

no map

can circumscribe.

Let us call it: Soul.

And let us consider:

Someday, perhaps,

all the wayward wandering sciences,

like the prodigal children they are,

will find their way back

to this original place

poetry

never abandoned.

And the poet—

The poet

will welcome them home.
