Not everyone can be a Poet.

The training is tough—

Years of obscurity and poverty,

years of struggle.

Years of suffering the ingratitude of your society.

You will be marginalized,

ignored, rejected,

while others get ahead.

You will often wonder

how you will survive.

But you will know that you are one

of the few:

One who can see, who can feel,

who can integrate mind and heart,

who can make words sing

in brilliant color

through the tapestry of Language.

You stand on the Edge

where others fear to go.

Do you have it in your heart to be a Poet?

Maybe you can be one of the few, the proud,

one of the Poets.
