Ron Lampi

“The Lamp of Psyche”

Poet for the Twenty-first Century

Poet of the New Millennium

Philosopher-Poet of the New Age

Ron Lampi is a philosopher-poet, writer, astrologer, lecturer, discussion group facilitator, and performance artist. He has also been called a New Age theologian. Though he has lived in almost complete obscurity his entire life, he believes that that is sooner or later destined to change. Ron has produced a large opus of various poetic works that will undoubtedly someday find a broad audience. He has actively been reading his work at numerous venues throughout the years, including solo readings. He sees himself as the bard who sings of his New Age Vision, and, on a local level, as a poet who celebrates Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay, in California, his place of residence for over 30 years. (See collections On The Cruz and Bay of Monterey.) His poems of place extend, however, ever further out to other places.

Ron brings an uncommon passion to his work and reading. His variable voice is able to capture all manner of experience. The word comes alive as he reads. His is a wide-ranging, multifaceted poetry that goes forth from his encounter with Melody and Vision. It all speaks of this transition time between Ages.

Ron's background includes academic studies in the hard sciences (his early university years as a biochemistry and then a biophysics major at Wayne State University), and in philosophy (receiving his BA in philosophy at the experimental college Thomas Jefferson College, now Grand Valley State University), with a brief stint as a graduate student in the philosophy department of Michigan State University. He has also read widely in and studied poetry, mythology, depth psychology, astrology and other occult arts, religion and the various spiritual traditions, and in fringe topics, especially UFO studies.

In the early to mid-1990s Ron co-facilitated UFO study groups ("The Santa Cruz UFO Study Group" the best known), for a year co-facilitated an experiencer support group, has co-hosted a radio program The UFO Hour, and has been interviewed for articles and interviewed on radio and local television. From 1996 to 2000 he facilitated a discussion group based in Santa Cruz called "Dialogue New Age" (the DNA group), and had put out a newsletter The LAMP, A Newsletter for the New Age Vision, regularly from 1995 to 2002.

Since the early 1990s Ron has lectured on the New Age Vision & Mythos, the UFO phenomenon, ET contact and our future spirituality, mythos and mythmaking, living in the Creative Fountain, Technos & Psyche, astrology, and on Mythos of Place, focusing on Santa Cruz. He did active astrological consultation for a number of years. His guided astrological meditation Through the Labyrinth, accompanied by the group Angelicus, has been publicly performed a number of times (Unity Temple in Santa Cruz, The New Age Renaissance Fair in San Jose, the South Bay Astrological Society, and at the home of Father Charlie Moore in Pacific Grove). He has read from his poetic work on community access TV and numerous times on different radio programs. Ron reads from his work on the audiocassette The Living Lamp, which is accompanied by the musical compositions of Errol Specter. (Produced in 1991, it is not currently available however.) He has also performed as The Multi Guy, primarily as a street performance artist (in the years 2000-2001).

Ron has recently completed a book-length manuscript titled The New Age Vision, which could well be the most definitive statement on what the New Age is about yet written. His huge collection of poetic work Advent, at over 300 pages, might very be the Leaves of Grass of the 21st Century. It but prepares the ground, however, for an even more massive work The MYTHOS. Ron has finally begun to concentrate also on philosophical writing.

Ron has led an on-going monthly discussion group in Los Gatos, California since November 2002. He performed The Vision of Psyche as performance art in October 2006 in Santa Cruz. His lecture “Santa Cruz: Mythos of Place” was given for the first time at the downtown Santa Cruz Public Library in August 2001.

Ron Lampi calls himself “The Lamp of Psyche” (The Lamp, for short). A note of explanation: This originally goes back to his Vision of Psyche and then to the fact that it was a lamp that initiated a turning point in the ancient story told of Eros and Psyche. It was as if destined that his last name would be Lampi. The full implications of “lamp” and “i” (as the “I”) as in the Lamp of the I (I:ego:self:psyche:Psyche:Self (Higher Self)) are still to unfold.

Ron is also the RAL Experience, or Ral (Ronald A. Lampi). His Story as Ral is the founding narrative of The MYTHOS. The MYTHOS is the Story of our Divinity coming into Human Reality. Ral is the archetypal person born into and living in a Postmodern context who has received the Vision of this Mythos and has been called to begin to tell its Story.

I am originally from Michigan, born in Detroit. (For those astrologers who may wish to study my chart, I will provide you my birth data.) I moved to Santa Cruz, California in September of 1976, and lived within its city limits for over 20 years. Currently I live in the mountains above Aptos, a location some miles south of Santa Cruz.

I have lived on my mountain for 8 years now. I am ready anytime to come down from the mountain. I have been preparing myself to come down from the mountain. It is time to share my riches with the world. My website is part of this effort.

Many of the details about my life can be found in my various works. (See in particular The Grand Finale, an experiment in autobiography) I will point interested persons in the appropriate directions. Also, I am always willing to answer any questions via correspondence.
